Arakan forests under the threatening
of SPDC's smuggling business
Sittwe - Jan 31, 2006: According to firm sources from Taung Gouk, around the areas of Ma Ee Chaung, Ann Chaung, along the Arakan Roma mountain range, light infantries of No: 371, 372, 373, under the commend of western division of military junta, Arakan region, are trading timber smuggling business with Singapore, Bangladesh since long time.
They have already established big woodcutter machine in Serr Brun village, Taung Goke township, Rakhine region. By each time, 6000 tons of timbers are being carried out as smuggler goods meanly to Singapore and Bangladesh. Local people said, those smugglers miscreants of SPDC are didn't left even roots of trees around the Taung Goke township and Ann township areas. Some timbers and logs were become coals and fuels in some areas where there difficulty to carry out.
In the result of mentioned above worthless smuggling business and products, forests and ecosystem are damaging and changing day by day in Arakan region. In case of those reasons, local people's seasonal agriculture livelihood struggling are seriously side effected and facing with the danger of forests extinct.
In that way, Koum Chaung island forest, Mray Bon township, Arakan region, was disappear or totally destroyed under the above mentioned of SPDC followers' worthless or illegal smuggling business, accordance to local people.
