Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) is learnt to have threatened to blow out the Habiganj Gas Field of Bangladesh Gas Field Company Limited (BGFCL), a sister concern of the Petrobangla, on January 2 through a letter sent to the Deputy General Manager (DGM) and in-charge of the gas field.
After receiving the threat, the BGFCL Managing Director (MD) Nazrul Islam informed the Petrobangla chairman Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Habiganj, the Energy Division and Police Super (SP) of Habiganj of the incident.
The local SP instantly ordered to deploy members of police and Ansar and other law enforcers at the gas field, sources said.
The BGFCL Managing Director (MD) Nazrul Islam said that an unidentified JMB member has threatened DGM Rafiqul Islam at the said gas field through a letter.
He quoted the letter as saying, "You and your colleagues are defaming us. We will blow out your gas field and kill you. Shift your family from here as early as possible."
As he thought, the members of the army should be deployed at different gas fields to ensure security like that witnessed at different power stations in the country.
Petrobangla chairman Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan told this correspondent that he informed the Energy Division about the urgency to take necessary actions in this regard on January 3.
Replying to a question whether the members of the Army should be deployed or not at different gas fields, he said, " I will not tell the press about it, but the ministry will be informed."
The Energy Division informed the Home Ministry about the matter on January 5 and the Home Ministry has directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and concerned authorities to take necessary actions, sources added.
